Beatrice Children's book?

I can't remember the name of this book I read as a kid. It was about a little girl and her "adventures". Either HER or her SISTER'S name was Beatrice. I think it was a series of books too. I remember a scenario in the book where her mom or dad was cooking for their boss and accidentally wound up cooking horse meat. That's all I can remember, anybody know what I'm talkin about. Oh yeah, she used to think that kindergarten was "kinderGARDEN"
